Pools and Palms Week 31 Athlete of the Week is Bella Barisoff, Women’s Varsity Lacrosse. Bella had two phenomenal performances in rounds 1 and 2 of the SCHSL playoffs that have led to the Lower State Championship game tonight. Bella has chosen to recognize her Spanish teacher, Senor Parris. Mr. Parris is a huge supporter of all Socastee Sports and is the Voice of the Braves. Mr. Parris is a positive influence on all our athletes and a big Socastee Women’s Lacrosse fan.
Pools and Palms Week 30 Athlete of the Week is Jimmy Cocca, Varsity Baseball. Jimmy was the starting pitcher in the win over Conway. Jimmy leads the squad in On Base Percentage and is tied for the single season stolen bases school record. Jimmy has chosen to recognize Mr. Morales. Jimmy says Mr. Morales was an awesome US History teacher and made him really enjoy the class. Mr. Morales just makes coming to school enjoyable and shows a ton of interest in all of his students activities.
Pools and Palms Week 29 Athlete of the Week is Aiden Sabota, Men’s Varsity Tennis. Aiden has won 3 number 1 singles matches in a row. This has put him near the top of the region, for individual play. Aiden has selected to recognize Mrs. Lehr, his IB English Literature. Aiden says Mrs. Lehr is an excellent instructor and a big tennis fan. She likes to show interest in how he is doing. His IB classmates were also super excited for Aiden and just kind of displayed the kind of kid he is, who is easy to root for. Aiden would also like to shout out Coach Duffy who he credits his success.
Pools and Palms Week 29 Athlete of the Week is Jerzy Kelly, Varsity Softball. Jerzy has had 2 home runs on the season, one of which was critical in the win over Myrtle Beach. Jerzy has been solid in the circle pitching for the Braves this season and a terrific leader for the team. Jerzy has chosen to recognize Dr. Floyd of Early College High School. Dr. Floyd attends all her students games during her free time. She is always positive and great mentor to Jerzy.
Week 28 Pools and Palms Athlete of the Week is Paige Bailey, Women’s Varsity Soccer. She scored 7 goals between the last 2 games combined, helping our team go 2-0 for the week. Paige has chosen to recognize Mrs. Urbaniak, who I believe has been chosen them most by our athletes. Paige just appreciates Lady Urb and what she did as a coach last season and her support of all Socastee Athletics. Lady Urb can always be seen mentoring students and spreading positivity throughout the school.
Pools and Palms Week 27 Athlete of the Week is Brooke Bushnoe, Women’s Varsity Lacrosse. Brooke had 14 goals, 7 assists, 21 points, 5 ground balls, 7 caused turnovers, a 52% draw controls in 3 games, with a 2-1 record during the week. Brooke chose to recognize Dr. Herndon, her IB English teacher. She says Dr. Herndon is her favorite teacher, she is just awesome and is always there to listen to her and provide great insight. Dr. Herndon is fantastic and Socastee Athletics appreciates you.
Pools and Palms Week 26 Athlete of the Week is Jevon Graham, Men’s Track. Javon Graham finished the 200m - 1st (22.18), the 400m - 1st, the Long Jump - 1st (21.3 ft) and the 4x4 Relay - 1st (as the Anchor) Jevon has chosen to recognize our Principal, Mr. Rich. Jevon says that Mr. Rich has just been a big fan of his and always takes time out to wish him well and show that he cares about him. He appreciates the way Mr. Rich treats him.
Pools and Palms Week 25 Athlete of the Week is London Wilder, Men’s Track. London won the 100 meters and finished 2nd in the 200 meters at the home track meet. London has been a stellar track athlete in 2025. London has chosen to recognize Ms. Troiani. London say Ms. Troiani is the best teacher ever with extreme enthusiasm. Ms. Troiani is a huge advocate for our SHS athletes and we all appreciate her.
Week 24 Pools and Palms Athlete of the Week is Jonathan Goswick, Men’s Lacrosse. Jonathan had 6 goals in 2 games, 7 ground balls and 2 takeaways in wins over Waccamaw and South Brunswick. Jonathan has chosen to recognize Coach Fox. He says Coach Fox has done a great job mentoring him and he is a better person for having Coach Fox as his coach.
Pools and Palms Week 23 Athlete of the Week, Christiana Royals, Varsity Cheer. Christiana is a fantastic person, a hard worker and was very invested in our football and basketball playoff process for the girls and boys teams. Christiana has chosen to recognize Mr. Morales who she says is committed to student success and not just academically. Mr. Morales tries to encourage students to reach their full potential in all aspects of their life. He also is a big Socastee Braves fan.
Pools and Palms Week 22 Athlete of the Week is Jake Antidormi, Varsity Wrestling. Jake has qualified for the state individual wrestling tournament, and was a huge part of the wrestling team success this year. Jake has chosen to recognize his coach, Gibby. He says Gibby drives him and always makes him feel great. Gibby pushes him in all aspects of life, not just wrestling.
Pools and Palms Week 21 Athlete of the Week is Josh Brown. Josh had a terrific Senior Night performance in the win over top ranked Conway. Josh has chosen to recognize Ms. Carr. Josh says Ms. Carr has been crucial to preparing him for post high school life and she is a terrific mentor and teacher.
The week 20 Pools and Palms Athlete of the Week is Ben Malone, Varsity Basketball. Ben had 15 points, and 5 assists in the win over NMB Friday night and the Carolina Forest game on Tuesday. Ben has chosen to recognize Mr. Chris Boyle, his History Teacher. Ben says Mr. Boyle is his favorite teacher and he makes learning fun and has just been an all around awesome person to know. Great job Ben and Mr. Boyle.
Pools and Palms Week 19 Athlete of the Week is Bri Smith, Women’s Basketball. Bri has had a terrific statistical season and has been a leader for the up and coming Lady Braves who have surprised many with their success this year. Bri has chosen Math Teacher, Landon Kirk. Mr. Kirk is a terrific teacher who shows a lot of interest in his students and really enjoys keeping up with his athlete’s success.
Pools and Palms Week 18 Athlete of the Week is Gavin Maxwell. Gavin is having a stellar wrestling season for the Braves as the tear through their competition. Gavin has chosen to recognize coach Gibby to who he credits being a wonderful coach and mentor for all of his wrestlers.
Pools and Palms Week 17 Athlete of the Week is Rylee Minehart. Rylee led the Lady Braves in scoring over the Winter Break. She had 89 points in 6 games. She was pivotal to the team being 4-2 in those 6 games. She was also selected as Max Preps Player of the Game 3 out of the 6 games. Rylee has chosen to recognize Math teacher, Alexis Karnes. Rylee says she just enjoyed Mrs. Karnes teaching and she is just an awesome person.
Pools and Palms Week 16 Athlete of the Week is Bryson Sams, Varsity Basketball. Bryson has been averaging over 25 points a game in a terrific start to the season. Bryson has chosen to recognize Coach Chilson. He says Coach Chilson has been a great Math teacher and he is always supportive of his basketball career at Socastee.
Pools and Palms Week 15 Athlete of the Week is Junior Michael Kegler who led the team in points with 48. Michael won all 8 of his matches over the two days. Seven of the wins were first period pins and his last match was won by forfeit. Michael chose to recognize Mr. Groff, who was his football position coach and has been a positive influence on his academic and athletic success.
The Women’s Varsity Basketball Team went 1-1 over the break at the Manning Tournament. Eighth Grader, Trinity Sumter of Socastee Middle, had 19 rebounds in the win against Beaufort (8 OR, 11 DR) and recorded her 1st career double double against Marion with 13 points and 13 rebounds (4 OR, 9 DR). Trinity is our Week 14 Pools and Palms Athlete of the Week.
Pools and Palms Week 13 Athlete of the Week is Ella Kelly, Women’s Cross Country. Ella is a member of the CC team headed to state, she has had a terrific season. Ella has chosen to recognize Lady Urb. Mrs. Urbaniak does a terrific job supporting her athletic students and she has been chosen by multiple players.
Pools and Palms Week 12 Athlete of the Week is Leigha Watts, Varsity Cheer and Camille Brailsford, Bravettes. After recently returning from an injury Leigha leapt back into the air competing elite stunts including a switch up, power press and low to high as well as advanced tumbling including a standing tuck and round off tuck leading the Braves to their highest competition score yet! Leigha is always willing to work hard for her team! Camille Brailsford has be an important member of our Bravette team and does a wonderful job. Camille has chosen to recognize Mrs. G for how much she has meant to her high school experience and how she is always there for her. Leigha has chosen to recognize Mr. Morales. Mr. Morales has been an excellent US History teacher and he is extremely supportive of Leigha.
Week 11 Pools and Palms Athlete of the Week features 4 athletes. Ashlynn Canney - Cross Country, Hayes Hardwick – Football, Brayden Bolinger – Football and Jaylen McIntyre – Football. Ashlyn has chosen to recognize Miss Hamilton, who has shown great interest in her as an athlete. Hayes chose Lady Urb, for her terrific English teaching skills and her interest in his football season. Brayden picked Sam Hanks, who he says is a big part of his success as a football player and Jaylen picked Coach Illing, who is always there to to encourage him and help him realize his abilities.
Pools and Palms, Week 10 Athlete of the Week, Amare Godfrey Varsity Football. Amare had 24 carries for 110 yds He also allowed 0 QB pressures in the Win over Conway this past Friday. Amare has chosen to recognize Mrs. Chilson, whom he had for French 1 and 2. Amare says that Mrs. Chilson made him believe that he could achieve more than he ever thought academically and she really pushed him as a student.
Pools and Palms, Week 9 Athlete of the Week is Madison Jacquemin again. Madison finished 3rd in the state of SC in the 5A backstroke. Madison was named All State. She has chosen to recognize Chris Adrian, CTE Teacher and leader of the Brave Cave. Mr. Adrian does a lot for SHS and his students. He is a positive mentor on all of his students.
Pools and Palms Week 8 Athlete of the Week is Logan Mendieta, Men’s Swimming. Logan was selected as the Region Male Swimmer of the Year for 2024. Congrats to Logan and good luck at states.
Week 7 Pools and Palms Athlete of the Week is Bradley Hinson, Varsity Men’s Volleyball. Bradley achieved 1,500 assists for his career and continues to be the leader of a successful Men’s Volleyball team. Bradley has chosen to recognize Mrs. Gorcesky. Bradley says Mrs. G is a great mentor, she is always there to listen and provide terrific advice for students.
Week 6 Pools and Palms Athlete of the week is Cade Radvansky, Varsity Football. Cade had a dominant performance in the huge upset win over previously undefeated Loris last Wednesday night. Cade could be seen making winning plays in all facets of the football game. Cade has chosen to recognize his English Teacher, Mrs. Wilder. Cade says Mrs. Wilder makes sure to keep track of how her students are doing outside of class, and she is a great teacher.
Week 5 Pools and Palms, Athlete of the Week is, Layla Holladay, Varsity Swim and CC. Layla had a terrific performance this weekend helping the Lady Braves stay undefeated in swimming and last Wednesday finishing 1st in the Myrtle Beach home meet and helping the CC team finish 1st. Layla has chosen to recognize Coach Curran, her favorite teacher. She says Coach Curran is just an awesome teacher, and makes everyone feel great about themselves.
Week 4 Pools and Palms, Athlete of the Week is, Nathan Ludeman, Men’s Swimming. Nathan won multiple events leading the men to their first swim meet victory in quite some time, signaling a bright future for the Braves Men’s Swim Program. Nathan chose to recognize Spanish Teacher, Mrs. Zeccola. Nathan enjoys her class and how she takes an active interest in her students extra-curricular events.
Pools and Palms Week 3 Athlete of the Week is, Daniel Devaux, Varsity Football. Daniel had a stat line of 2 tackles, 4 assisted tackles, 1 blocked punt, 2 for 3 on PATs, 1 for 1 on a 32 yard FG attempt. He also punted for a 37yd/avg. Daniel chose to recognize Mr. Logan Gore. Daniel states that Mr. Gore is a terrific teacher and he does a lot for SHS and the students he teaches.
Week 2 Pools and Palms Athlete of the Week is Madison Jacquemin, Senior Swimmer, Women’s Varsity Swimming. Madison took 1st in the 100 Backstroke, 1st as part of the 200 Medley Relay, 1st as part of the 200 Freestyle Relay, and 1st, with a new school record of 1:01.31 in the 100 Butterfly. Madison has chosen to recognize staff member Mrs. Suzanne Troinai, English Teacher. Madison says that not only is Mrs. Troiani a great teacher, she cares about her students as people, and is always supportive of their extracurricular endeavors.
Week 1 Pools and Palms Athlete of the Week is Cami Roberts. Senior Setter, Women’s Varsity Volleyball. Cami in week 1 had 50 setting assists, 5 Services aces, 6 kills, and 11 digs. Cami immediately chose to recognize staff member Shannon Bogart-Rowan, department chair of Social Studies. Cami explains that Mrs. Bogart-Rowan is an excellent teacher and shows great interest in students at SHS.
