The Socastee Braves Varsity Wrestling Team opened up region play this evening by hosting Myrtle Beach High School. The Braves took an early lead with wins by Aven Price, Aiden Scales, Roger Spegal, Eric Light and Landon Jackloski. Myrtle Beach fought back, caught up and eventually took the lead. With 12 of the 14 matches completed, Myrtle Beach had an 11 point lead 40-29. Captains Gavin Maxwell and Michael Kegler were the 2 remaining matches and both had to pin their opponent in order to win the dual. Maxwell was able to weather the storm after taking a deficit in the match and got the pin cutting the lead to 5. Kegler took it from there, pinning his opponent in the second period. The final score was Socastee 41 Myrtle Beach 40. The Braves improved their team record to 14-4 on the season and 1-0 in the region. Their next region match is next Wednesday at Carolina Forest.
