SOCASTEE ATHLETIC HALL OF FAME CLASS OF 2024

Last night Socastee High School inducted two former Braves into the Athletic Hall of Fame. Coach Paula Lee and Raphael Carr. Along with these two deserving members a few current Hall of Fame members returned to Socastee: Beth Hunt, Fred Kroll, Alvin Green, and Robbie Bennett. Paula Lee Socastee High School Student-Athlete 1974-1978 Socastee High School Teacher & Coach 1987-2004 Women’s Tennis Coach 1987-1998 Founder/Director of Socastee Tennis Jam 1988-1998 State AAAA Runner-Up 1998 Women’s Basketball - Varsity Head Coach 1987-2003 5X Region Coach of the Year 225+ wins Co-Founder & Director of Girls Beachball Holiday Invitational 1999-2004 #1 SCBCA Girls AAAA State Ranking February 2000 South All-Star Coach 2002 “Success is a journey, not a destination … It is always about the Student-Athlete” Paula is joined by her mother Mary Lynn Lee, Coach Billy Hurston, and dear friend Anita McMahan After retiring from HCS in 2018, Paula moved to NC where she currently resides in Stokesdale, NC. In June of 2022, she started working as an office administrator for AVE Integration in Kernersville, NC - an “audio video electrical” company. She enjoys living the Lake Life in NC on Belews Lake & loves attending ACC athletic events throughout the year. Although in NC, she will always call Murrells Inlet home! Raphael M. Carr 4 year letterman for Track 1987-1990 . 3 year letterman for Soccer 1988-90. 1990 Soccer team MVP, Toast of the Coast selection 2nd team All-State North South Selection. Played Collegiate soccer with Erskine College and was awarded the MVP for 1994-95 Flying Fleet. Played in the USISL Professional soccer league with the Myrtle Beach Boys followed by the MB SeaDawgs from 1995 to 1999. "I am grateful to those that guided me on a path to success and to those who helped me traverse it" Raphael is joined by his wife of 25 years Christina Carr(also a graduate of Socastee High School and former Bravette) and his daughter Mariana. They have 3 children ages 23, 20 and 13. Raphael is in his 11th year as the Executive Director for the Georgetown County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Commission. Raphael has a total of 28 years working with non-profit, human services’ organizations as a primary job. Raphael currently coaches soccer at St. James High. He began coaching at Socastee High in 1995 and spent time since with Conway High and with Coast FA soccer club. Raphael has volunteered with various coalitions and civic groups over the years. Raphael is currently on the Board of Directors for A Fathers Place, is the President of the Georgetown Kiwanis Club, and serves on the Carolina Human Reinvestment Board of Directors. Raphael feels being recognized and inducted into the hall of fame is a testament that effort and perseverance is recognized and appreciated. He hopes that his HOF induction is an acknowledgement of his teammates, coaches, family and supporters that have encouraged and assisted him in his growth as an athlete and competitor that made his successes possible.
