On July 2, 2023 longtime Socastee Brave guidance counselor and Varsity Men's Basketball Coach, Derrick Hilton, passed away after a short but courageous battle with cancer. For the past two years, the Friday closest to birthday, October 22, we have celebrated and honored his memory with Derrick L. Hilson Sr Day in the Socastee Attendance Cluster. This year dozens of Fall Varsity Student-Athletes went to out three feeder elementary schools, Forestbrook, Lakewood, and Socastee and greeted car riders and bus riders to help get their friday started off in a Brave way!! Coach Hilton loved taking the Men's Basketball team to the schools to greet the kids and give back, so this was fitting act of community service. Forestbrook Middle, Socastee Middle, and Socastee HIgh, along with our three elementary schools also participated in a Jeans Day fundraiser to help keep Coach Hilton's memory alive in the form of 2 scholarships that will go to deserving graduates of the class of 2025.
